On December 7, 2021, at the Aiwei Technology production workshop assembly line, technicians were debugging the installed automatic microscopic inspection equipment. At the scene, the reporter saw that the equipment's parts were also very delicate, with the cover glass thickness being only 0.17 mm. Technicians had to repeatedly check the data on the computer system and debug the instrument parameters to ensure the accuracy of the equipment's detection. It is understood that the company's testing instruments have been installed in more than 5,000 hospitals nationwide.

According to normal reference values, the number of red blood cells in a microliter of urine sample in adult women is no more than 7.5, the number of white blood cells is no more than 13.5, and the number of epithelial cells is no more than 28. How to judge if the sample is abnormal? The first step is to check the pathological components such as red and white blood cells in the sample. According to international standards, the analysis of an uncentrifuged urine sample requires at least 6.4 microliters of sample volume. Under a high-power microscope, more than 300 lens fields of view are needed to complete the screening of one microliter of sample.
In the past era of mainstream manual microscopy, all results under the microscope needed to be manually judged, identified and counted. The labor intensity of the inspectors was high, and omissions and misjudgments were easy to occur. Moreover, due to subjective factors of the inspectors, the results could not be standardized.
How to solve the disadvantages of manual microscopy? The answer may be automation. In 2002, as the first urine sediment analyzer in China to obtain a registration certificate, the first-generation intelligent and automated urine sediment microscopic inspection product developed by Aiwei Technology can automatically collect images under a microscope and automatically identify and count red and white blood cells in urine, assisting manual microscopic examination.
"Our instrument has two microscope lenses. A low-power lens with a large field of view is used for comprehensive scanning and identification of large targets, and when small targets are found, it quickly switches to a high-power lens for magnification and identification." Aiwei Technology Vice General Manager Zhou Fengliang introduced that the two lenses work together flexibly, like two motorized eyes, which can quickly scan and analyze the pathological components in the sample. A single machine can complete 150 sample tests per hour, which is more than 15 times more efficient than manual microscopy.

Zhou Fengliang introduced that artificial intelligence machine vision for microscopic inspection has brought significant improvements to medical testing work. The greatest significance of the instrument is that it solves the practical problems of large workload, unstable results, and inaccuracy in hospital testing work, and realizes the automation, standardization, and standardization of urine microscopic examination.
Original Innovation, Filling the Gap
"With the help of automation, the original urine samples that needed to be concentrated using a centrifuge can now be tested directly." Zhou Fengliang introduced that the automatic microscopic examination methodology created by his company eliminates the centrifugation step, shifting the industry focus from intelligent urine sediment analyzers to urine formed element analyzers. In 2007, because its automated microscopic examination series instruments do not require centrifugation of samples during testing, Aiwei proposed the new concept of "urine formed elements" and was the first to rename "intelligent urine sediment analyzer" to "urine formed element analyzer". The new name was included in the "National Medical Device Classification Catalog".
